Elementary Experiences
Exploring the Elements:
Yoga
&
Creative Dance
Workshops.
Join senior Yoga and Creative Dance Teacher, Peter Hockey, for 2 workshops exploring the elements (bhutas: earth, air, fire, water, space) and how they may relate physically and metaphysically to humanity.
Through the inflluence of Dorotea Mangiamele, who applied yoga elemental theories to her yoga and creative dance teachings at Mangala Studios (est. 1970), Peter has developed his individual approach and philosphy for over 35 years of teaching creative dance and yoga.
Creative dance and yoga supplement and inform one another, however they are two separate disciplines with unique aims, Peter is therefore inviting students to explore these two complimentary workshops:
a morning session to explore the elements in a Mangala Dance format and
an afternoon session incorporating the elements with mantra, asana and pranayama.

The Mindful Body
Yoga Afternoon
Asanas – Stillness in Movement, Moving Stillness
2:00 - 4:00pm I am keen to conduct an exploration of traditional asanas with preparations, counterposes and advanced form possibilities – taken from an individual perspective - with modifications and adaptions. With this personal approach we will be looking carefully at suitability and alternatives. Ultimately it is the effect of the asana practice on the quality and enjoyment of life rather than the asana itself which is important.
I would also like to consider the place asana holds in the preparation of the mind and body for the experience of yoga - yogascittavrttinirodhah – Yoga is the stilling of the modifications of the mind.
The session will be practical but paced to allow discussion and experimentation.
Yoga Nidra
4:15 - 5:00pm After many years, I am still quite convinced of the usefulness and efficacy of this practice both for deep healing and as a tool for further yoga practices. Suitable for beginning and experienced students.
